Merchants Bank Continues Support for Area Food Banks And Hosts Community Food Drive November 7 – December 9

(Thursday, November 4, 2016 – Bangor, PA) – Each year, Merchants Bank contributes funds to area food banks during the holiday season in addition to their volunteer support provided throughout the year. This year is no exception.

Merchants Bank will not only contribute funds to food banks throughout Northampton County – beginning Monday, November 7, they are hosting a community food drive at each of the nine branches. For five consecutive weeks, nonperishable food items will be collected and donated equally to the food banks that Merchants Bank has supported over the past few years.

“Local food banks have difficulty keeping food on the shelves, especially during the holidays. While we are happy to support them monetarily, we believe food items will go even further", says Rocco Del Vecchio, CEO of Merchants Bank of Bangor. "Our employees not only work here, but they also live here. They’re strong community advocates and enjoy supporting the community as deeply as Merchants Bank does."

In Northampton County, roughly 9.8% of the population lives below the federal poverty level. Among that group, 13.2% are under the age of 18 and 6.1% over age 65, according to a census report issue in 2015.
