July 2013 - A Community Bank is Coming to Downtown Bethlehem

Merchants Bank is excited to announce the opening of its ninth branch at 2 West Broad Street, in downtown Bethlehem. The new branch will be modeled like their Easton branch, with sit-down customer service and teller representatives, instead of the traditional teller windows. “We feel delivering individual service in this way is more customer-centric and will enhance the customer experience we consistently deliver,” explained Tracey S. Smith, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

The building, formerly the home of Farr’s shoe store, is being leased from ALT Realty. The upstairs apartments and downstairs retail space was developed by Anthony Scarcia  and the Pektor Family. “It has been a great pleasure for the Farr’s Development Team to be a part of the revitalization of this iconic building, and to bring its first commercial tenant, Merchants Bank, to Bethlehem. We feel that Merchants will be a tremendous asset to local businesses and the overall community,” said Anthony Scarcia.

Anthony Biondi, Chief Executive Officer of Merchants Bank, feels that downtown Bethlehem is a great fit, “There are no other true community banks serving the downtown area. Since 1890, the bank and its employees have a solid history of supporting the businesses and the communities in our footprint. We are proud to bring our brand of customer and community service to Bethlehem.”

Merchants Bank is anticipating an August opening of the Bethlehem branch. An official ribbon-cutting date will be announced in the near future.
